English/Reading
Enrollment for 2007-2008
The Project Graduation Reading Online Tutorial identifies student academic needs with an online pretest and provides tailored Web-based lessons to meet those needs. Teachers may now enroll seniors who have not passed the English Reading Standards of Learning assessment, or juniors determined to be at-risk of not passing this same assessment. No ninth or tenth grade students are eligible for accounts.
The tutorial will be available at no charge to public school students in Virginia. School-based teachers guide students through the recommended lessons while monitoring their progress with online tools. After completing the lessons, students take an online readiness assessment to determine if they are prepared for the end-of-course reading SOL test.
Although students may engage in lessons from home or school, each school must provide a facilitator/teacher to serve as a mentor and guide to enrolled students. Facilitators should be endorsed English instructors. Facilitators will have access to student accounts, will monitor student progress, and offer individual guidance.
It is the responsibility of each facilitator to ensure that student accounts are actively used, as the Virginia Department of Education pays for each account once it is created. School divisions are encouraged to request administrative accounts for division administrators, principals, or department chairs. These accounts will enable administrators to track progress of their students.
Classroom teachers may register students at any time. Follow directions on the top of the spread sheet.
