of Learning Assessments Spring 2006 Released Tests The content areas for which the tests have been released are: Grade 5 Writing, Grade 8 Writing, End-of-Course English: Writing, Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, Grade 3 Science, Grade 5 Science, Grade 6 Plain English Mathematics, and Grade 7 Plain English Mathematics. New tests in reading and mathematics for grades 3, 4, 5, and 8 and for reading in grades 6 and 7 as well as End-of-Course Reading and Algebra II were administered for the first time in 2005-2006. As noted in Informational Superintendent's Memorandum No. 106, May 12, 2006, these new tests are not being released. The only newly developed tests being released are the grades 6 and 7 spring 2006 SOL Mathematics tests that were released in fall 2006 under the direction of Dr. Billy K. Cannaday, Jr., Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction. The “plain English” versions of the grade 6 and 7 mathematics tests which may be administered to Limited English Proficient students who met specified criteria and certain students with disabilities were released in March 2007. In addition, science tests for grade 8, Earth Science, and Chemistry are not being released to protect the integrity of the item banks and to allow for immediate retesting of students who have failed the Earth Science or Chemistry tests and need these tests for verified credit. History and Social Science tests from 2005-2006 are also not being released in 2007. Please note that due to web optimized formatting, the images in all released tests may be smaller in size than on the actual tests.
