The Armenian Genocide and the Holocaust are the most typical instances of genocide in the 20th century. The Armenian Genocide of 1915 was the first genocide of the 20th century and the forerunner for subsequent 20th century genocides. By studying this genocide, students will be able to see the relationships between the Armenian Genocide and the Jewish Holocaust.
The Education Center at St. James Armenian Church, Richmond, Virginia, developed a resource kit to facilitate the study the Armenian Genocide of 1915 In March of 2002, the complete kit was mailed to all Virginia high schools to the attention of the history department chairman.
The resources in the kit are provided, in PDF format, at the links below:
• The Study Guide (2 Mb), which includes lesson plans, facts on the Armenian Genocide, vocabulary with meanings, review questions and questions for writing assignments, and a bibliography.
• Study Maps (3 Mb), depicting Turkey and the scene of the Armenian Genocide. These maps were part of the ooriginal study guide but are provided separately for faster downloading.
The lesson plans in the study guide are developed around the use of two videos:
