Tobacco, Taxes, and Tea!
Thursday, January 25, VMFA galleries and Pauley Center, Studio B, 4:30–7 pm
This is a perfect opportunity to learn about American Colonial history—and about related teacher resources available through the Library of Virginia. First, enjoy a gallery tour led by VMFA Gallery Education Manager Celeste Fetta, including a look at Thomas Hart Benton’s Brideship ; the elegance of English silver; and an exploration of the connections between taxes and tea parties and the role that tobacco played in the development of America. Celeste will also answer your questions about An American Adventure, the gallery tour she developed for grades 5–7. After the introductory session in the galleries, meet the Library of Virginia’s delightful Curator of Education Katie Gillespie for an overview of the library’s related teacher resources (and some not-to-be-missed give-aways)!
