Virginia Advisory Committee for the Education
of the Gifted
In 1982, the Virginia Advisory Committee for the Education of the
Gifted was formally established by the Virginia Board of Education to provide
guidance to the Board and the Superintendent of Public Instruction about the
educational needs of students identified as gifted in school divisions. The
committee is composed of representatives from school divisions, professional
organizations, institutions of higher education, Governors Schools,
business and industry, and parent groups.
The committee meets four times during the school year. Meetings
are typically held in September, December, February, and April. The September
and April meetings are held at the University of Richmond. The December and
February meetings are held at the various Academic-Year Governors
Schools.
All meetings are open to the public and the
agenda and minutes are available as links off
this site. Persons wishing to address the group during the public comment time
are welcome to register with Donna Poland (Donna.Poland@doe.virginia.gov). Speakers
representing formal groups are welcome to speak for five minutes; others are
provided three minutes to address the committee.
The Board of Education appoints members to the Virginia Advisory Committee for the Education. Recommendations for positions to be filled for the upcoming term accepted through June 9, 2008. Persons wishing to make recommendations may use the attached form (PDF Format).
