These guidelines are color-coded, first-aid flowcharts intended to serve as an emergency care resource for school staff without full-time medical or nursing support. More than 37 of the most common pediatric illnesses or injuries are arranged alphabetically for quick reference. The guidelines also include a list of recommended first aid equipment and supplies for schools and universal precautions to prevent or reduce the spread of infectious diseases. A Guide to Developing Effective Injury Prevention Initiatives, 2nd Ed. (0567)—This guide helps identify strategies and resources needed to create and carry out effective injury prevention programs. This fact sheet enumerates the "do's" and "don'ts" in transporting children in EMS vehicles that can significantly decrease the likelihood of a crash, and in the event of a crash or near collision, significantly decrease the potential of injury to children. These guidelines for good practice are recommended until pending research and consensus outcomes are resolved. It addresses gun violence and conflict resolution in the school setting. SAFE KIDS is the leading national organization addressing unintentional injury prevention for children ages 14 and under.
