The purpose of the School Nurse Institute Partnership Mentor Program to provide an informal network of local support for new Virginia school nurses and school nurse coordinators based on the roles and standards of school nursing practice.

This will be accomplished by creating one-to-one relationships between new school nurses/coordinators and experienced school nurses/coordinators throughout the Commonwealth.

The mentor is available to provide support, guidance, and advice through telephone, e-mail, and/or on-site contacts.

Interest: Mentoring new private school nurses.  There are unique considerations in private schools, especially those with a special education mission, such as Chesapeake Bay Academy.  Although the Academy  is accredited through the Virginia Association of Independent Schools, they are also required to maintain a Special Education Certificate to operate because of their mission to serve only those children who have ADHD or a learning disability.
