Comments from the author:

PowerPoint is in Microsoft Office 97 Program and you must have this program in order to run the onscreen presentation, or to copy the information to make your own transparencies or handouts.I have many presentations in this format in which I have used over the last couple of years in school as well as in my classes I teach at our local VoTech.

Topics include:

  • CPR-- infant, child, and adult  per American Heart Association Protocols
  • First aide and Safety-- Green Cross Protocols
  • AIDS presentation
  • Various Drug and Alcohol Topics
  • Handwashing
  • STDs
  • Back Safety
  • Support Personnel-- ADL Assistance
  • Tuberculosis
  • If you are interested in any, let me know.  Some are complete ready-to use programs with handouts, post-tests, etc.   $20.00 should cover postage and disk and time to copy and get them to you.  E-mail me if you are interested in any of the above topics and I will e-mail my address to you.  If you are interested in the Heat Exhaustion Inservice or Bloodborne Pathogens and do not have capability to run PowerPoint, I can send you copies on overhead transparencies (color) for $30.00 each, or black and white copies on regular print paper  for $10.00 each.   Thanks.

    Viewing Instructions

    PDF File Information

    • To view the presentations, you will need Adobe's free Acrobat Reader.
      • If you don't have it, you can save yourself a visit to Adobe's busy site at the Virginia Department of Health's  Acrobat Reader download page.
    • Please make sure that you have a recent edition installed on your computer.
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free program that lets you view and print documents created in Adobe's Portable Documents Format (PDF).
      • This lets users on virtually any system exchange documents freely with users on other systems.
      • For more information about Adobe Acrobat Reader, please visit http://www.adobe.com.

    Zip File Information:

    • The presentations are also available as Zip files.
      • To view, you must have both Adobe Reader and WinZip software installed on your computer.
    • Zip files are "archives" used for distributing and storing files.
      • Usually the files "archived" in Zip are compressed to save space.
      • Zip files make it easy to group files and make transporting and copying these files faster.
    • A free download evaluation version is available at http://www.winzip.com/download.htm.
    • For more information about WinZip, Nico Mak Computing, Inc., visit http://www.winzip.com/winzip.htm

    Viewing Slides:

    • You can view a presentation from the Internet or, after you download it to your computer, you can view it from you own computer.
    • When you view it on the Internet, each page will take a while to load, which can become frustrating.
    • If you choose to download it to your computer for viewing, each page will load very quickly.  How to do each of these options is described below.

To view it from the Internet:

To view a presentation off your personal computer
(Using a right-handed mouse, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Internet Explorer browser, and a "PC" computer)
    • Install the latest version of Adobe Reader on your computer, if you don't already have it.
    • Move your cursor over the http address (e.g., http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Oasis/9484/ky05_27_99.pdf).
    • Click on your right mouse button, which makes a popup menu appear.
    • Click on "Save Target As...", which makes the File Download screen suddenly appear, followed by a "Save As" screen.   (If you are using Netscape Communicator browser, right click on "Save Link As.")
    • Click on the folder where you want to save the presentation on your computer, then click "Save."
      • The File Download screen will reappear, which shows the downloading progress.
      • Depending on the size of the file and the speed of your modem, it can take 5-20 minutes to download a presentation file.
      • After the download is complete, the presentation is now on your computer, under the folder in which you saved it (step 3 above).
    • Go to your File Manager (e.g. Microsoft Explorer) to locate the file.
      • After you click on the file name, it will appear in PDF format.  (Remember that you first have to install Adobe Reader on your computer.
To view a presentation using a MAC computer:
    • When the adobe acrobat is downloaded, it will be in compressed form.
      • The file will probably be labeled "ar40.sit" and placed in the folder/area you designated when it was downloaded.
    • You will need to have Stuffit it or a similar program to unzip (uncompress) the adobe acrobat program.
    • Double click on ar40.sit and "Reader Installer" application icon will appear on the screen.
      • Double click on Reader Installer.
      • When prompted, designate folder on hard drive you wish to have adobe acrobat installed.
    • Once the installation is complete you will get a message telling you the installation was successful.
    • Under file menu, highlight open, then double click on the pdf file you wish to view (eg. heat.pdf).
    • The program will launch within a few seconds for your viewing pleasure!
