Instructional Activity or Strategy
Who Am I?
This activity encourages students to explore their own values and gives
them an opportunity to explain their values to other students.
Steps To Complete the Activity
Have students
- Decorate the outside of a paper bag to represent their personality
or what they think others readily see/judge/perceive them to be.
- Cut out pictures, words, and ideas and put them inside the
bag to represent the inner self (such as values, personality traits,
or beliefs).
- Present to the class the bag they have decorated.
- Share with the class one trait from inside the bag.
- Discuss the differences between what others seem to be and what
they really are.
Discussion
The concluding discussion led by the teacher could be enlarged to encourage
students to develop their hidden or private attributes and to encourage
students to accept differences in others more readily.
