Time
Required: Three 45-minute sessions
Objectives
Students will
- study
the adaptations of some macroinvertebrates that enable them to spend
part or all of their life cycle in a stream ecosystem
- compare
the role of herbivores, carnivores, detritivores, and omnivores and
note the interdependence of plants and animals in a stream
- observe
the effects of erosion and other pollution on stream macroinvertebrates
and infer pollution’s effects on the entire Chesapeake Bay
watershed
- collect
information from fact sheets and guidebooks and use a classification
key to identify macroinvertebrates
- analyze
and graph data from a stream-monitoring simulation.
