Virginia Honor Schools Grant :: Virginia Honor Schools

Virginia Honor Schools. Grant Activities for Honor Schools
Algebra Readiness Expansion Grant

Honor schools are eligible for up to $5000 of funding for a transition summer program targeting rising ninth graders from their feeder middle schools. Eligible students are those identified as being at-risk of not passing Algebra I in ninth grade.

The summer program should be a motivating one, offering students the opportunity to improve their mathematical skills as well as prepare for a successful ninth grade year in high school. Each program should include pre- and post-testing that will determine the curriculum for the program based on students’ weaknesses identified by the pre-test. The Virginia Department of Education will supply an adequate number of Algebra Readiness Diagnostic Test units for this purpose.

Funding for teacher salaries for the summer program will be available on a reimbursement basis.
