The Project Graduation Honor Schools Grant is an opportunity for Honor Schools to supplement Project Graduation funds they may already receive from their school divisions.

Application deadline: July 10, 2006

Grant funds will be made available to all Honor Schools to implement and/or enhance transition programs to target special assistance to ninth grade students.

"" Algebra Readiness Expansion Grant
Application deadline: March 3, 2006

Honor schools are eligible for up to $5000 of funding for a transition summer program targeting rising ninth graders from their feeder middle schools. Eligible students are those identified as being at-risk of not passing Algebra I in ninth grade.

"" AP and Dual Enrollment Training Year II
Applications will be accepted on a continuing basis.
Scholarships of up to $2,000 will be offered to each Honor School for teachers interested in taking courses to prepare them to teach Advanced Placement or dual enrollment courses.
"" FIRST Robotics Training for Honor School Teachers - September 29-30, 2006
Registration deadline: August 28, 2006

"" Virginia Online Tutorials will be held for faculty from the NGA Honor Schools.
Application deadline: March 10, 2006 - first come, first served
Teachers currently teaching Algebra I or Algebra I Part 2 are encouraged to attend. English teachers currently teaching “at-risk” juniors or seniors who have not yet successfully passed the End-of-Course SOL reading test should also plan to attend. The tutorials aid teachers in giving targeted assistance tailored to the needs of individual students. The optimum model is for each school to send a team of two mathematics teachers, two English teachers, and one administrator. Registrations will be accepted on a first come basis. Sessions will then be offered to other schools. Deborah Kiger Bliss, Mathematics Coordinator, and Tracy Fair Robertson, English Specialist will provide the training.

Application deadline: January 12, 2006
Each NGA Honor School will be given up to three $1,000 scholarships over the two year grant period to teachers of Advanced Placement or dual enrollment courses.

February 2-3, 2006, in Richmond
With an optional 3rd day on February 4 to participate in a train-the-trainer program.
Conducted in partnership with the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals.

School Counselor Training
Old Dominion University, March 29-30, 2006

One school counselor from each of the Honor Schools is invited to attend a two-day training. The program will include information on high school reform, financial aid, SAT training, establishing support networks for students, immigration information, Early College Scholars, and the Virtual AP school, and Virginia Mentor. Counselors will be provided overnight accommodations at the Radisson Hotel Norfolk. Additional information will be forthcoming via US mail in the coming weeks.

Strategic Instruction Model (SIM)
Registration deadline: January 30, 2006
Teachers at NGA Honor Schools will have the opportunity to attend the SIM summer academy at James Madison University to be trained in the University of Kansas Strategic Instructional Model.

"" Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP)
Teachers at NGA Honor Schools will have the opportunity to add endorsements to their teaching license in the area of mathematics and science.
"" PSSS - Preliminary SAT Scoring Service
Registration deadline: November 18, 2005
All tenth grade students at NGA Honor Schools will have the opportunity to take the Preliminary SAT Scoring Service (PSSS) assessment in February.
