memorandum contains information related to the following topics:

2002 Lucent Global Science Scholars Competition

Summer Research Program at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute

Virginia Junior Academy of Science Set for May 2002 in
Hampton, VA
The
Lucent Technologies Foundation is conducting the 2002 Lucent Global Science
Scholars competition for high school seniors in the United States. This annual international competition seeks
to identify 30 of the most accomplished graduating high school seniors in the
areas of science and mathematics to receive the Lucent Global Science Scholar
award. The program recognizes the students’ achievements with a $5,000
scholarship for each scholar and an invitation to attend the “Lucent
Technologies Global Summit.” Detailed

Summer
Research Program at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute
The
Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, NY, will hold its annual Summer
Research Participation Program in Science for high school juniors during the
summer of 2002. This program, sponsored
by the National Science Foundation and the National Cancer Institute, will take
place June 14-August 9, 2002.

The
Virginia Junior Academy of Science (VJAS) will take place May 21-23,2002, at
Hampton University in Hampton, VA. The
sixty-first annual VJAS provides middle and high school students the
opportunity to present original research papers before an audience of
practicing scientists. To find more
information about this program contact http://www.vacadsci.org/vjas-1.htm. The Virginia Science Resource Network (VSRN)
will provide several scholarships to teachers who would like to learn about the
VJAS experience. These scholarships
cover the registration package for VJAS, training on the VSRN network, and a
stipend. The application is available
