SUBJECT:	2003 Governor’s Summer Residential Programs

The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce the application process for the 2003 Governor’s Summer Residential Programs. Superintendent’s Informational Memo #136, released on October 4, 2002, offers students in public school divisions and private schools, as well as home-schooled students, an opportunity to apply for any one of the six Governor’s Foreign Language Academies or the seven Summer Residential Governor’s Schools. As in previous years, school divisions are allocated a specific number of nominees for the various programs. The school division’s gifted education coordinator is the designated contact person for all local decisions and should indicate the dates for intra-divisional activities associated with the selection of nominees.

Nominations for the Governor’s Foreign Language Academies are due to the Department of Education by January 15, 2003. Questions regarding these programs may be addressed to Faye Rollings-Carter (frolling@pen.k12.va.us), principal specialist for foreign languages, at 804/225-2593.

Nominations for the Summer Residential Governor’s Schools are due to the Department of Education by February 13, 2003.
