Nominations of College-Bound Students for the Robert C. Byrd Honors
Scholarship |
The
Department of Education is pleased to announce the availability of the Robert
C. Byrd Honors Scholarship to provide financial assistance to students who have
achieved academically and show promise of continued outstanding academic
achievement. The Robert C. Byrd fund
provides scholarship awards to worthy Virginia high school students who will
graduate by July 2004, and have applied or been accepted for enrollment at a
public or private institution of higher education. Byrd scholars are selected in such a manner that all areas of the
commonwealth are fairly represented. We
request that you emphasize activities that will assure that students from
low-income and moderate-income families have access to the information about
the opportunity for full participation in the scholarship program. Principals
of all public and nonpublic senior high schools will be informed of the
scholarship and requested to assist in making students aware of the scholarship
opportunity.
The
application and further details are available in Superintendent’s Memorandum,
