Roswell Park Cancer Institute Summer Opportunity
for High School Students |
Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) in Buffalo, NY,
is offering a summer research experience for approximately 30 high school
students to participate in programs designed to give them an opportunity to
learn and become active participants in cancer research. This is a program
designed for talented high school students who will have just completed their
junior year (Class of 2006). RPCI is particularly interested in applicants who may
be the first in their families to attend college, from
non-science/non-professional families, under-represented minority students, and
students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. The program will run from
June 27-August 11, 2005, and is partially funded by the National Cancer
Institute.
The program is held each summer for seven weeks.
Each student works on an independent research project under the guidance of
RPCI scientific staff for four days each week
and spends the fifth day attending lectures, classes, and seminars. All
students prepare critiques on various lectures they attend, and present their
research results during a scientific conference held at the end of the program.
All admitted students will be charged a $100 activity fee. Stipends and
allowances for room and board will be provided for out-of-town students and
underrepresented students from minority groups or financially disadvantaged
families.
