Pursuant to the Code of Virginia
§22.1-298.8, “All persons seeking initial licensure or
license renewal as teachers on or after July 1, 2004 must complete
a study in child abuse recognition and intervention.” Curriculum
guidelines will be made available to local school divisions to assist
in the development of training to meet this requirement.
The following resources may be helpful
in designing training to assist teachers and other school professionals
in recognizing child abuse and neglect and in fulfilling their legal
responsibility to report suspected cases of child abuse.
