Nominations
for Appointments to the Adult Education and Literacy Advisory Committee of
the Board of Education |
In June 2001
the Board of Education created an Advisory Committee on Adult Education and
Literacy to offer recommendations to the board. The board adopted a resolution establishing operating guidelines,
which included the number of committee members and terms of office. Kirk Schroder, president of the Board of
Education, appointed 11 advisory committee members. At its October 2001 meeting, the board amended the guidelines for
operating the advisory committee to extend the membership of the committee to
include three additional positions.
Nominations of persons interested in serving on this advisory committee are being solicited across the state. The board is committed to maintaining an ethnic and regional balance on the committee. Nominees may be adult educators from school divisions, community colleges, or community-based organizations. Nominees may also include superintendents and representatives from business or the community. Former adult education students are also eligible for membership on the advisory committee.
Nominations
may be made on behalf of individuals who have agreed to have their name
considered for this position.
Self-nominations are encouraged.
The Advisory
Committee on Adult Education and Literacy meets quarterly, usually in
Richmond. Those placing their names in
nomination agree to participate in all meetings. Expenses for travel at the state rate are reimbursable.
Nominations
will be solicited through January 15, 2002.
To place a name in nomination, please complete the attached form and
return it to Dr. Yvonne V. Thayer, director of adult education and literacy,
Virginia Department of Education, P. O. Box 2120, Richmond, Virginia
