Local Plan for Career and Technical Education

 

 

Superintendent’s Memo No. 82 provided an update on legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2002.  The memo indicated that Senate Bill 334 would affect the development of the local plan for Career and Technical Education by requiring the involvement of area business and industry representatives and local community college representatives in developing the plan.  In addition, this bill requires several additional narrative schedules to be added to the local plan as well as the involvement of the local school board in the development and approval of the plan.  Due to these changes, we are providing information to you earlier this year so you will have more time for planning with the appropriate representatives and obtaining the required approval.

 

To introduce the revised Career and Technical Education Plan for 2003-04, James A. Gray, Jr., associate director, office of career and technical education services, will make a presentation at each of the upcoming Career and Technical Education administrator’s regional meetings.  The presentation will include an overview of the plan as well as a description of the changes in the plan, which is the result of SB334.

 

Career and Technical Education administrators are encouraged to contact the regional chairperson to obtain the meeting time and location.  Listed below is a schedule for the meetings and the name of each regional chairperson. 

 

Region 2          November 20          Sarah Martin, Virginia Beach City

Region 3          November 8          Lee Browning, Spotsylvania County

Region 4          November 14          Mat Pasquale, Alexandria City

Region 5          December 19          Barry Arey, Shenandoah County

Region 6          November 7          Roger Johnson, Roanoke County

Region 7          December 5          Elizabeth Thomas, Washington County

Regions 1 & 8          November 22          Estelle Jones, Petersburg City
