SUBJECT:	Jamestown LIVE! Web Cast: November 9, 2006

In 1607, the very essence of modern America took root on the banks of the James River at Jamestown, Virginia. In 2007, America’s first permanent English settlement will turn 400 years old.

On November 9, 2006, from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m., students from all 50 states and across the globe will gather online and in person to participate in the educational Web cast, JAMESTOWN LIVE! Experience the Journey that Changed the World. This event will bring to life the important history and legacies of Jamestown through programming geared to an audience of students in grades four through eight.

This one-hour program will be hosted by Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) senior correspondent Gwen Ifill, and will deliver key historic information on the founding and significance of Jamestown. The content will focus on three of Jamestown’s legacies - exploration, cultural diversity, and democracy.

You may register your class and/or school now at www.jamestownjourney.org. Technical instructions for joining the Web cast are provided on the Web site. Permission is given for schools and divisions to show the Web cast through a school-based cable TV system connected to the Internet.

Jamestown 2007 has teamed up with TIME for Kids to create a teacher resource guide specifically for Jamestown Live! This resource guide is available at www.jamestownjourney.org.
