Pursuant to
the provisions of the Regulations Governing Pupil Transportation (8VAC 20-70-460), the Board of Education has approved school
bus specifications for 2006-07. These
specifications were developed by a committee of representatives from school
divisions. They were then posted on the
Department’s Web site for 30 days to allow school divisions and other
interested parties to submit comments prior to presenting them to the Board of
Education for final approval.
On September
27, 2006, the Board of Education approved the specifications as recommended by
the specifications committee and the Department. Some of the more significant changes include:
1.
Non-sequential
system for the traffic warning lights - This system will cause the red lights
to activate when the door of the bus is opened.
The driver must initiate the traffic warning light sequence with the
current system.
2.
Addition
of second traffic warning sign - School divisions will have the option of
placing a second traffic warning sign on the left rear side of the bus if the
bus has a passenger capacity of 64 students or greater.

specifications can be found at the following Web site address: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Finance/approvedbusspecs.pdf
