SUBJECT: |
2006-2007 School Health Advisory Board Annual Report
and Local Wellness Policy Status Report |
The purpose
of this memo is to request the completion of the annual School Health Advisory Board Report, as required by the Code of Virginia at § 22.1-275.1. Each School Health Advisory Board (SHAB) is
required to submit an annual report on the status and needs of student health
in the school division to the local school board, the Virginia Department of
Education (VDOE), the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), and other
appropriate parties.
In addition,
the annual SHAB report has been modified to include a status report on the
development and implementation of the Local Wellness Policy (LWP). School divisions have been encouraged to use
the local SHAB, in conjunction with nutrition advisory councils and other
advisory groups, as the infrastructure to address the local wellness
issue. If a committee other than the
SHAB has been charged with implementation of the Local Wellness Policy, please
forward that section of the report to the responsible committee for
completion. The Local Wellness Policy
Status Report will be forwarded to the VDOE school nutrition programs
office.
