SUBJECT:	School Nutrition Employee Appreciation Week – May 7-11, 2007

The Virginia Department of Education joins schools throughout the Commonwealth and the nation in recognizing the contributions of school nutrition professionals during School Nutrition Employee Appreciation Week, May 7-11, 2007.

School nutrition programs in Virginia serve more than 675,000 lunches and nearly 200,000 breakfasts each school day. Meals are designed to meet the nutrition standards of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the food safety standards of HACCP, as well as to please the palates of their discerning customers – students. The dedicated professionals who plan, prepare, and serve nutritious school meals provide essential support to students as they strive to achieve high academic standards and optimal health.

School divisions are encouraged to join the Department of Education in recognizing the important contributions of school nutrition professionals to the success of our students.
