SUBJECT: |
Fiscal
Year 2007 |
The
General Assembly provided $892,020 in fiscal year 2007 to continue state
funding for the school breakfast program as an incentive to increase the level
of student participation. The fiscal
year 2007 incentive payment is based upon 2005-2006 school year breakfast program
participation data. The original fiscal
year 2007 (FY07) appropriation was not sufficient to fully fund the incentive
payment at $ 0.20 per meal to each school division. The Department of Education reimbursed school
divisions at a pro-rated amount in October 2006.
Additional
FY07 funds have been appropriated by the General Assembly to fully fund the
incentive payments to school divisions.
A second payment will be made to school divisions that earned incentive
funding. The attached spreadsheet (Attachment
A) shows, in the final column, the additional incentive payment that will be
made to each school division.
The
state breakfast incentive funds will be paid via electronic data interchange (EDI)
on May
31, 2007. This payment will appear on
the EDI notice as State School Breakfast
Incentive Funds – revenue source code 240347.
Funds
received by school divisions pursuant to this program must be credited to the
school nutrition program and may not be used for any other purpose. The school nutrition program financial
reports submitted to the Department of Education will be monitored to determine
compliance with this requirement.
Please
direct questions regarding the school breakfast program incentive funding to
Lynne Fellin, acting director of school nutrition
programs, or the division’s assigned school nutrition specialist at (804)
225-2074.
