SUBJECT: Virginia Annual Fall Principals Conference Call for Presentations – November 29 – December 1, 2001

The Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals (VAESP) and the Virginia Department of Education (DOE) are pleased to announce that the Virginia Annual Fall Principals Conference will be held November 29-December 1, 2001, at the Williamsburg Marriott. This event is co-sponsored by VAESP and DOE to develop and to enhance elementary and middle school administrators’ leadership skills, to inform them of current issues in public education, to strengthen their understanding of these issues, and to expand their knowledge base that will assist them in educational change. The theme and the focus for this year’s conference is "RINGING IN A NEW ERA: Achievement – Assessment – Accountability – Accreditation".

The conference will feature general and concurrent sessions that will provide participants with strategies for analyzing data, refining instruction and curriculum based on collected data, and practices that work based on best practices from diversified schools throughout the commonwealth. Staff members from the Department of Education, including the Division of Instruction, Division of Accountability, and the Division of Assessment and Reporting, will share the most recent update on issues that impact achievement, assessment, accountability, and accreditation at the state level.

The attached Call for Presentations form is being distributed electronically to all elementary and middle school administrators. Conference planners invite you and your staff to submit a presentation form to be considered for inclusion in the conference program. The presentation form must be received no later than October 19, 2001. Please mail your forms to Fall Conference, VAESP, 2116 Dabney Road, Suite A-4, Richmond, VA 23230. The complete program, registration information, and hotel accommodation forms will be distributed to division superintendents and to all elementary and middle school administrators in early October. If you have questions about the conference, please call VAESP at (804) 355-6791, e-mail vaesp@earthlink.net or fax to (804) 355-1196.
