FROM: Patricia I. Wright
Assistant Superintendent for Instruction
SUBJECT: "Virginia Women in History" Poster Recognition

We are pleased to provide information about a project co-sponsored by the Virginia Foundation for Women and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Since 2000, a poster honoring women from Virginia’s history has been produced and disseminated to each school throughout the commonwealth. The poster includes instructional and learning activities for kindergarten through grade 12.

This year the co-sponsors are seeking nominations from K-12 students. Classrooms may nominate one woman they would like honored on the 2003 "Virginia Women in History" poster. The deadline for nominations is April 1, 2002. Classrooms whose nominee is selected will receive a plaque and will be guests at the 2003 "Women in History" celebration. For information on how to submit a nomination, please contact Blair Guncheon at the Virginia Foundation for Women at (804)782-7870 or visit their website at http://www.virginiawomen.org.

For further information, please contact Colleen C. Bryant (mailto:cbryant@mail.vak12ed.edu), secondary history and social science specialist, at (804) 786-4640.
