Inf. Memorandum No. 169, issued on November 30, 2001, provides information
regarding Modeling Algebra for Student Success: Virginia Algebra Initiative for Secondary Teachers (Year 2). This
memo can be
accessed on the Virginia Department of Educations website at:

The goal of
the initiative is to effect a shift in algebra instruction by involving
teachers in professional development activities over an extended period of
time. Division superintendents may register
one teacher from each high school and one from each middle school for the
Algebra I Initiative. Participant
expenses (lodging and board) will be paid by the Department of Education. The registration form can be accessed at:
