School-to-Work State Implementation Grant
(Academic Challenge for Success) |
The Virginia Department of Education has been
awarded a School-to-Work State Implementation Grant through the Virginia
Business-Education Partnership program.
This initiative will provide additional instructional time for students
who will be taking the Standards of Learning assessments in the spring of 2002
in the schools statewide that received a 2001 accreditation rating of
Accredited With Warning in mathematics or English. Capital One has joined with the Virginia Business-Education
Partnership program to provide an additional $500 per school to help with
instructional costs.
Each eligible school should use the funding for a
locally designed program to deliver 150 hours of additional instruction to
students who will be taking the Standards of Learning assessments in the spring
of 2002.
For information regarding how eligible schools can
receive funding, please refer to Superintendents Memo No. 21 concerning the
Academic Challenge for Success located on the Department of Educations Web
site at /administrators/superintendents_memos/2002. A completed program justification must be
submitted to the Department of Education no later than March 8, 2002.
