Informational Memo No.159 dated November 15, 2002, reminded school divisions
that beginning in 2003-2004, the Standards of Learning test will assess the
entire 2001 History and Social Science Standards of Learning. In preparation
for the full implementation of these standards, new history and social science
blueprints have been developed and are available at http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Assessment/HistoryBlueprints03/.
The revised blueprints are effective with the fall 2003
administration of the History and Social Science Standards of Learning tests.
Beginning in 2003-2004 school divisions may choose to administer separate tests for United States History to 1877, United States History: 1877 to the Present, and Civics and Economics. These courses are currently assessed on a cumulative test administered in grades 7 or 8. Blueprints for these new tests are available at the website referenced above.
The
revised blueprints are being made available at this time to assist school
divisions with curriculum and instructional planning for the 2003-2004 school
year and beyond. Please remind teachers that the new blueprints are not
effective until fall 2003.
A question and answer document that addresses issues related to the implementation of the revised blueprints and the new tests for United States History to 1877, United States History: 1877 to the Present, and Civics and Economics may be found at the website referenced above.
