The Virginia
Department of Education has prepared a video to help students and their parents
better understand the graduation requirements that become effective with the
class of 2004.
The title of
the video, 2+4 in 2004: What you Need to Know about Virginia 2004-2006
Graduation Requirements, refers to the combination of verified units of credit
required for a Standard Diploma (two verified units of credit in English and
four of the students own choosing) during the transition period covering the
graduation classes of 2004, 2005, and 2006.
The video is
less than ten minutes in length, making it ideal for use in presentations to
students and parents. The video also includes information about the Advanced
Studies Diploma and answers to frequently asked questions about graduation.
The video
will be mailed during the week of February 3-7 to high schools and combined
schools. Each school will receive one
copy of the video addressed to the guidance counselor. Additional copies of the
video may be obtained by contacting the departments Office of Teleproduction
Services. The fee for duplication,
which includes videotape, shipping and handling, is $5 per program for Virginia
K-12 public schools, and $8 per program for all other users. Tapes may be ordered by using a form
available on this page of the department website:
http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Technology/DOEhour/GET_TAPE.html
A
streaming-video version of the tape may be viewed by clicking the link on the
For Students page of the department website:

Please
consider creating a link to this page on your school website as part of your
efforts to inform students and parents of the flexibility available for earning
a Standard Diploma during the transition period. In creating links, schools are encouraged to make use of the 2+4
in 2004 icon, which is available on the home page of the department website.
