The
Granville P. Meade Scholarship |
The Department of Education is pleased to announce
the availability of the Granville P. Meade Scholarships to provide financial
assistance to students who have achieved academically, but who are financially
unable to attend college. The Granville
P. Meade fund provides scholarship awards to worthy and needy Virginia high
school seniors to attend one of Virginias public or private colleges or
universities.
Principals of all public and nonpublic senior high
schools are requested to assist in making students aware of the scholarship
opportunity. In the past, each
scholarship was in the amount of $2,000 per year for four years, provided the
student continues to meet the scholarship requirements.
Interested students are asked to submit scholarship
applications to their high school principals by March 15, 2004. Each public school principal will submit all
applications received to the superintendent of the division. Private schools will submit their
applications to their own associations.
These applications should be received in the superintendents and
associations offices by March 30, 2004.
Each division superintendent will review the
applications received and select the five most qualified high school seniors in
their division. The division
superintendent will forward these five applications to the chairperson of his
or her regional study group screening committee by April 15, 2004. Each chairperson will submit the five best
applications to the Virginia Department of Education by April 30, 2004. Private school and home school associations
also will be asked to submit their five best applications to the Virginia
Department of Education by April 30, 2004.
