The Virginia Department of Education and Pearson
Learning Group are pleased to offer three workshops on Comprehension Strategies
Using Nonfiction Texts by Ann Cerise.
The information gained during these workshops will assist educators in
teaching comprehension, one of the five essential components of reading
instruction.
Ms. Ann Cerises professional career spans
twenty-five years with diverse educational roles as a classroom teacher,
reading specialist, assessment specialist, and instructional facilitator. Ms. Cerise specializes in staff development
training and assessing literacy learning.
These interactive workshops for grades 3 through 5
will explore comprehension strategies used to teach nonfiction text in the
classroom. The dates and locations for
the workshops are as follows:

persons from each elementary school or central office. Please complete the attached registration
form and fax it to Regina Thomas at (804) 786-1703. A confirmation notice will be faxed to the first 60 people that
register for each site, with preference given to schools Accredited with
Warning in reading. There may be an
opportunity to repeat these workshops if there is sufficient interest.
