Bob
Costas Grants for the Teaching of Writing
Six
grants of $2,000 each will be awarded to teachers of grades 6 through 12 who
inspire students to write. The grants
will help teachers continue a current project or start something new. Projects can be carried out in school,
through an after‑school writing workshop, or during a summer
program. Teachers from all academic
disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Activities might include a student newspaper or website; a creative
writing group for aspiring poets or songwriters; a program for integrating
writing and mathematics; a workshop in science fiction or sports writing; or an
activity using student writers to help senior citizens record their life
stories. Any project qualifies if it
introduces young people to the joy of writing.
Public and nonpublic school teachers of grades 6 through 12 from all
subject areas are encouraged to apply.
Applications
must be postmarked on or before November 17, 2006.
