SUBJECT:	Improving SOL Test Results Workshops

The Virginia Association of School Superintendents is co-sponsoring two workshops this fall on "Improving SOL Test Results In All Core Subjects" with the Virginia Department of Education and Northrop Grumman Information Technology. The workshops will feature nationally known presenter Dan

Mulligan and Mark Greenfelder, principal of Thoreau Middle School in Fairfax. Both Dan and Mark presented two well-attended workshops last February on "Improving Math SOL Test Results," which received excellent evaluations from teachers and school administrators. The September 24 workshop at the Wyndham Roanoke Airport Hotel and the October 1 workshop at the Sheraton Park South Hotel in Richmond are the same and each will address:

v Creating a Professional Learning Community in your school;

v Developing common assessments that address higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy;

v Conducting frequent online formative assessments and developing remediation strategies based on the results;

v Targeting specific student populations and developing appropriate instructional strategies for student achievement;

v Analyzing test data effectively; and

v Creating and supporting a successful program for professional development.
