SUBJECT:	Future City Engineering Competition for Middle School Students

 

Student teams from middle schools in Virginia are invited to participate in the 2008-2009 Future City Competition. This program is endorsed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Sponsors of the competition include major corporations such as the Shell Oil Company.

 

The mission of the Future City Competition is to provide a fun and exciting educational engineering program for seventh- and eighth-grade students that combines a stimulating engineering challenge with a "hands-on" application. Teams create a model city of the future. The project gives students an opportunity to see city planning and engineering issues as challenging and enjoyable. It puts into perspective the problems that our cities are trying to solve on a daily basis across Virginia.

 

The registration form is available at the Future City website at http://www.futurecity.org/ and the deadline for registration is October 31, 2008.
