The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce the Hispanic Youth Symposium, which is sponsored by the Hispanic College Fund. It will be held July 28-31, 2009, at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and will serve 300 Hispanic students across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
This year Governor Kaine will serve as honorary chair of the symposium. The purpose of the symposium is to bring Hispanic students to a college campus for four days to experience campus life and have various workshops that will inform them of the process of transitioning into higher education. Once students participate in the symposium, they become part of the Hispanic Youth Institute, which is a year-round network that supports their educational and professional aspirations. The Hispanic College Fund will also stay in electronic contact with the students, providing them with ongoing information about scholarships, internships, and college application deadlines.
