COMMONWEALTH of VIRGINIA
Department of Education
September 27, 2011
FROM: Linda M. Wallinger, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction
The Virginia Tech School of Education is pleased to again honor exemplary public school and community college programs across the Commonwealth with their Excellence in Education Awards. An outstanding program in each of the Superintendents' regions and one Virginia community college program will be celebrated at the annual Virginia Association of School Superintendents’ Spring Meeting at the Hotel Roanoke in May 2012. At this time, nominations are being accepted for programs you feel exemplify excellence in education in your school, school division, or community college.
Nominations may represent the entire range of services or practices (e.g., instructional programs, student services, career education, staff development, retention programs, etc.). Nominated programs should be innovative, creative, effective, unique, replicable, are of significant importance to the student community, and demonstrate a positive cost-benefit relationship.
The announcement of award and certificate winners will be made by the end of March. Award winners will receive plaques and a monetary award for the future support of the exemplary program. Descriptions of award winners' programs will be placed on the Excellence in Education Web site and the newspapers in the winners' area will be notified. The awardees will be invited to attend the awards reception at the Hotel Roanoke.
The nomination form that must be used to submit programs for consideration for the 2012 Virginia Tech School of Education Excellence in Education Awards is attached. Any given program may be nominated only once and identified as either a public school or a community college entry. The nominations must be postmarked no later than November 15, 2011. Please duplicate the form and distribute it to those who may be interested in participating. If you have any questions, please contact Asta B. Schram at email@example.com.
