Pilot Projects for an Alternative Education Program
Request for Proposal (RFP) |
Subject to final approval by the Governor, the General Assembly has approved funds to establish alternative education sites throughout the Commonwealth and ensure that all school divisions have access to such an option for students who may be disruptive or present serious behavior problems, 14 new regional sites will be funded for 1996-97. In addition, the Department will continue to support the 19 regional projects currently operating through the funding formula process. Attached is the Request for Proposals (RFP) for those school divisions who will be first-time applicants for a regional program. To be considered, proposals must be received at the Department no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 1996. Each project funded will involve two or more school divisions working in collaboration to establish options for students who (a) have committed an offense or have a pending offense in violation of local school board policy related to weapons, drug and substance abuse, or intentional injury to another person; (b) have been expelled or have long-term suspensions; or (c) have been released from a youth learning center and would benefit from the program as recommended by the corrections superintendent and the local school superintendent.
