Department of Education and VAPT Pupil Transportation 
Conference June 23-26, 1996

 
  The 1996 Virginia Pupil Transportation Conference sponsored
  by the Department of Education and VAPT, will be held at the
  Radisson Hotel, Virginia Beach, Virginia, June 23-26, 1996. 
  The Radisson is located at 1900 Pavilion Drive at the
  Pavilion Convention Center off Route 44 (Virginia Beach
  Expressway).
  
  An outline of the tentative conference program is shown as
  Attachment "A".  On Sunday June 23rd, registration has been
  planned from 2:00p.m. to 5:00p.m.  An exhibits review and
  parts display will be held from 6:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. and
  will include a reception hosted by Salem Quality Equipment
  and Blue Bird Body Company from 6:30p.m. to 8:30p.m.  On
  Monday June 24th, registration and exhibits will be open
  from 7:00a.m. to 8:45a.m. and 2:00p.m. to 5:00p.m., followed
  by a Bar-B-Que Cookout, beginning at 6:00p.m. sponsored by
  Sonny Merryman and Thomas Built Buses.  On Tuesday June
  25th, registration and exhibit areas will be open from
  7:00a.m. to 9:30a.m., with special entertainment following
  the banquet sponsored by Kingmor and K & M Supply.
  
  Displays of complete vehicles outside have been scheduled
  for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.  The First General Session
  will begin at 9:30a.m. on Tuesday, June 25th, with
  conference adjournment expected by noon, Wednesday, June
  26th.  The attached Conference Pre-Registration Form
  (Attachment "B") is needed to assist with the preparation of
  registration, conference materials, and finalizing the
  banquet.  There is a $5.00 registration fee to help defray
  the increased cost of conducting this conference.  There
  will be a charge of $20.00 per person for the banquet
  scheduled at 7:00p.m. on Tuesday.  Your participation in the
  banquet will be most helpful.  CHECKS FOR THE BANQUET AND
  REGISTRATION MUST BE MADE PAYABLE TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
  AND, IF POSSIBLE, SUBMITTED TO THE PUPIL TRANSPORTATION SERVICE 
  WITH YOUR CONFERENCE PRE-REGISTRATION FORM.  Banquet reservations
  must be finalized with the hotel by the Department no later than
  Thursday, June 20th.  Payment or confirmation of reservation is 
  required by that date.

  Pre-conference seminars for supervisors and mechanics are
  scheduled for 9:00a.m. Monday, June 24th.  Use Attachment
  "C" for seminar registration.  Additionally, a special staff
  development session for school bus driver trainers is
  planned for Tuesday afternoon.
  
  
  SPECIAL ENTERTAINMENT - ATTACHMENT "D":  To assist sponsors
  in planning for the special events, which have been planned
  again this year, it would be most helpful if you would fill
  out and return Attachment "D" no later than June 17, 1996. 
  ADMITTANCE TO SPECIAL EVENTS WILL BE BY NAME TAGS ONLY.
  PLEASE LIST ALL NAMES OF THOSE ATTENDING, INCLUDING SPOUSES
  AND CHILDREN.
  
  Room reservations at The Radisson, Virginia Beach should be
  made early to avoid the possibility of not obtaining room(s)
  at this hotel (Attachment "E").  ROOM RESERVATIONS RECEIVED
  BY THE HOTEL AFTER MAY 23, 1996 WILL BE HONORED ON A SPACE
  AVAILABLE BASIS AND POSSIBLY AT A HIGHER RATE.  REMEMBER, AT
  THE BEACH PEOPLE DON'T VACATE ROOMS UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE;
  THEREFORE, EARLY CHECK-INS, ESPECIALLY ON SUNDAY, USUALLY
  ARE NOT POSSIBLE.
  
  A special invitation is extended to division superintendents
  and other school officials who are involved in the purchase
  of equipment, and anyone interested in learning more about
  changes in federal and state programs affecting pupil
  transportation.  Questions should be directed to Dr. Barbara
  V. Goodman, Associate Director or Vince Nevius, Associate
