| SUBJECT: | Grant Applications for Programs Involving Homeless Children and Youth |
Enclosed is the 1996-97 proposal package to be used for applying for funding under the Stewart B. McKinney Education for Homeless Children and Youth program authorized by the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act, as amended September 28, 1994. Grant awards are provided for direct services to ensure the enrollment, attendance, and success of homeless children and youth in school. Grants are awarded on a competitive basis. Dr. James Stronge, at the College of William and Mary, is the State Coordinator for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth. Questions regarding the grant or the application process should be referred to Dr. Stronge or Pamela Tucker, Program Administrator, (804) 221-4002. Local school divisions that wish to compete for funds have the option of submitting the individual application or the consolidated local application under the Improving America's Schools Act of 1994.
