SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 67
September 27, 1996 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | Richard T. La Pointe
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Identification of Division Directors of Testing |
Each year the Department of Education requests that Division Superintendents designate Division Directors of Testing. This memo conveys the request for the 1996-97 school year. The Division Directors of Testing are the official contacts for all activities related to state assessment programs. It is to these persons that all state assessment-related correspondence and questions are directed by the Department. As you are aware, the state testing program is moving into new areas during the 1996-97 school year. A new norm-referenced test will be administered in the spring of 1997, and the new SOL assessments will be field tested in the spring of 1997. In previous years, Division Superintendents have had the option of designating a Division Director of Testing for the Literacy Passport Test (LPT) and another for the norm-referenced testing program, referred to as the Virginia State Assessment Program (VSAP). In most school divisions, these have been the same person. For 1996-97, we are asking that Division Superintendents designate (a) a Division Director of Testing for the LPT and (b) a Division Director of Testing for the new SOL and NRT programs. These two designations may, as in the past, be the same person. Attached is a listing of the Division Directors of Testing designated by you for the previous (1995-96) school year. Please use this form to update your designations of Division Directors of Testing for 1996-97, review and correct mailing addresses and phone/fax numbers. These forms should be returned to the Division of Assessment and Reporting by October 11, 1996. Questions should be directed to Cameron Harris at 804/225-2913. Thank you for taking time to update this information. RTL/mwc Attachment: This memo and its attachment will be sent to the superintendent's office.
