| SUBJECT: | Availability of Funds for "Special Projects and Teacher Training" in Adult Education |
Funds are being targeted for adult education programs through provisions of the Adult Education Act (revised by Public Law 102-73). Specifically, there is a requirement that the Office of Adult Education expend a minimum of 15% (approximately $900,000) of the adult education state grant in special projects and teacher training activities as identified by the priorities in the request for proposals (RFP) package. Funds for projects designed to implement such activities will be available on an open, competitive-bid basis. Eligible fund recipients shall include state and local education agencies and public and private non-profit organizations. Any eligible recipient who wishes to apply for funds under the provisions of this legislation will be required to submit an application. Copies of the application packet including policies and procedures, guidelines, an application form, and a descriptive listing of the FY 1996-97 adult education priorities, may be obtained from the Office of Adult Education, Department of Education, P. O. Box 2120, Richmond, Virginia 23218-2120. Applications should be postmarked no later than midnight, March 6, 1996, or be hand-delivered to the Office of Adult Education located at 101 N. 14th Street, 19th floor, Richmond, no later than 4:00 p.m. on March 8, 1996. Applications will be reviewed by a state review board and recommendations will be made by the review board for funding selected projects. Two informational meetings regarding the grant process will be held. The first will be in Richmond, February 5, 1996; the second will be held in Roanoke, February 7, 1996.
