| SUBJECT: | Addendum to English K-5 Textbooks |
Due to a prior delay in finalizing the recent English K-5 textbook evaluation process, the Department of Education will be extending an invitation to submit K-5 English books to publishers of new reading/language arts series who may have missed the 1994 Department of Education submission deadline. A screening committee will be convened to evaluate the newer submissions and an addendum to the recently published K-5 English list will be mailed to superintendents. Evaluation profiles specifying the degree of correlation to the revised English Standards of Learning will be distributed to division textbook coordinators. However, the newer series will not receive state contract prices. If the newer series are selected, school divisions will be encouraged to negotiate local contracts with individual publishers on the addendum list. The Department of Education plans to complete the evaluation process and report to school divisions by April 1, 1996. If additional information is needed, please contact Jane Koontz at (804)225-3129.
