|SUBJECT:||Secondary/Postsecondary Counselors/Educators Workshop|
The Virginia Department of Education, in collaboration with the Virginia Community College System and Virginia Employment Commission, is sponsoring one-day workshops, "Improving Career Decision Making (ICDM): Preparing for the Changing Nature of Work." Secondary and postsecondary counselors, teachers, and coordinators will be invited to participate in one of the ten planned workshops. Each workshop session will present information on massive economic, technological, and social changes affecting the public education system. Special emphasis will be placed on the vast array of labor market information and the use of this information for making career decisions. Topics will address employers' expectations; linking career development with economic growth; development of business/education cooperation; and updates of career development programs, products, and services available. Secondary/postsecondary counselors, teachers, and administrators from local school divisions are invited to participate in a workshop in your area. The workshops will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude by 3:00 p.m. at the following locations: April 23 4-H Camp Center, Abingdon April 24 A. R.
