| SUBJECT: | Secondary/Postsecondary Counselors/Educators Workshop |
The Virginia Department of Education, in collaboration with
the Virginia Community College System and Virginia
Employment Commission, is sponsoring one-day workshops,
"Improving Career Decision Making (ICDM): Preparing for the
Changing Nature of Work." Secondary and postsecondary
counselors, teachers, and coordinators will be invited to
participate in one of the ten planned workshops.
Each workshop session will present information on massive
economic, technological, and social changes affecting the
public education system. Special emphasis will be placed on
the vast array of labor market information and the use of
this information for making career decisions. Topics will
address employers' expectations; linking career development
with economic growth; development of business/education
cooperation; and updates of career development programs,
products, and services available.
Secondary/postsecondary counselors, teachers, and
administrators from local school divisions are invited to
participate in a workshop in your area. The workshops will
begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude by 3:00 p.m. at the
following locations:
April 23 4-H Camp Center, Abingdon
April 24 A. R. Burton Tech, Roanoke
April 25 Ingleside Hotel, Staunton
May 7 Eastern Shore Community College, Melfa
May 8 Holiday Inn, Hampton
May 9 Southern Piedmont Agriculture Resource &
Extension Center, Blackstone
May 13 Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg
May 14 Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg
May 15 Henrico Government Center, Parham Road, Henrico
May 16 Holiday Inn Airport, Richmond

There will be a $15.00 registration fee that covers lunch
and breaks for each participant. Workshop registration
materials will be mailed to each school division. If you
