This correspondence is to call your attention to a program that has been operating in Virginia for the past four years. Learn and Serve Virginia K-12 is a federally funded program through the Corporation for National Service (CNS). Learn and Serve Virginia provides training and technical assistance to school divisions that choose to administer service-learning programs. Service-learning involves applying classroom learned knowledge to real life situations. Copies of the attached brochure and newsletter have been sent to the Director of Instruction in your school system. The training and technical assistance for Learn and Serve Virginia is offered through Virginia Commonwealth University. You may reach the Project Director, Kim Lacy Johnson, at (804) 828-1332 for questions or comments. If you would like more information about future program developments contact Allen S. Bridgeforth, Employment Training Specialist, at (804) 225-2850. Thank you in advance for your interest in making Virginia's schools a more integral part of the community. WCBJr/klj Attachments
