| SUBJECT: | Competitive Grant Applications for Learn and Serve America Grant Awards |
The Corporation for National and Community Service has
announced that grant awards will be provided on a formula
allotment basis to State Educational Agencies (SEAs). These
funds are being awarded to support Learn and Serve America,
a program designed for the purpose of planning, operating,
implementing, or expanding high quality school-based
service-learning programs.
Virginia's share of the formula allotment for FY 1997 is
$373,054. The Department of Education will make funds
available to school divisions through competitive grants in
varying amounts not to exceed $12,750.
School divisions are invited to submit proposals for school-based
service-learning programs. Enclosed you will find a
copy of Guidelines and Procedures for Competitive Grant
Applications for School-Based Service-Learning in Virginia
Public Schools, Grade K-12. The deadline for submitting
proposals is June 21, 1996.
