SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 119
June 21, 1996 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | William C. Bosher, Jr. Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Literacy Passport Test Diploma Requirement for Adult Students |
It has come to the attention of Department staff that there is some confusion in local school divisions about the application of the Literacy Passport Test diploma requirement to adult students who are not enrolled in adult education programs. Adult students who are not eligible to be counted in the average daily membership (ADM) of a school division must be treated as adult education students for the purposes of the LPT and must, therefore, pass the LPT to be eligible for a standard or advanced studies diploma. (Please see Informational Superintendent's Memorandum No. 109, June 7,1996, for more information about which students may be counted in ADM.) The rule" that students in grade seven or higher in 1989-90 do not have to meet the LPT requirement to receive a standard or advanced studies diplomas does not apply to adult students who are not counted in ADM regardless of whether they are enrolled in an adult education program.
