SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 158
September 20, 1996
|FROM:||Richard T. La Pointe
Superintendent of Public Instruction
|SUBJECT:||Standards of Learning Survey|
The Virginia Department of Education has been requested by the Commission on the Future of Education to report on the implementation status of the 1995 Standards of Learning. To respond to this request, the department's staff has developed the enclosed "Standards of Learning Survey" to be completed by each local school division. The information collected using the "Standards of Learning Survey" will be reported to the State Board of Education as well as to the Commission on the Future of Education. In addition, the information gathered from the survey will provide the Department of Education with important baseline data on the implementation of the 1995 Standards of Learning. This information will be made available to local school divisions and should assist in the continued implementation of the 1995 Standards of Learning. Please fill out the survey in its entirety and return it no later than October 11, 1996. I appreciate your assistance and cooperation in this important effort. If you have any questions regarding this survey, please contact Dr. Thomas L. Shortt at (804) 225-2874. RTL/jf Enclosure: This memo and its enclosure will be sent to the superintendent's office.
