SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 164
October 4, 1996 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | Richard T. La Pointe
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | Technology Funds for Elementary Media Centers and Networking |
The General Assembly and the Governor have been very supportive of technology in the schools and have provided significant funding for this purpose. In 1994-95, $8 million was appropriated for high school media centers. In 1995-96, $6.7 million was appropriated for middle school media centers. In addition, the Assembly appropriated over $46 million for elementary media centers and networking. In order to receive these funds, school divisions must submit reimbursements with supporting documentation. You were informed that the final date for submitting reimbursements for these funds was December 1, 1996. We have received notice that this date has been extended to March 1, 1997. Funds will not be available for reimbursements submitted after March 1. There is still a large amount of these funds outstanding, and we strongly urge you to submit the reimbursements before March 1. A reimbursement form has been attached for your convenience. Another sale of notes, approximating $55 million, is scheduled for the spring of 1997 to continue the technology program throughout the school divisions. Therefore, we are asking that you make a special effort to submit the reimbursements for the elementary media centers and networking as soon as possible. If you have any questions on the appropriate purchases, please call Dr. Ida Hill, Division Chief for Technology, at (804) 225-2757. If you have questions concerning the reimbursement form, please call Mrs. June Eanes, Budget Director, at (804) 225-2060. RTL:je Attachment: This memo and its attachment will be sent to the superintendent's office.
