SUPTS. MEMO. NO. 168
October 4, 1996 |
| TO: | Division Superintendents |
| FROM: | Richard T. La Pointe
Superintendent of Public Instruction |
| SUBJECT: | School Technology Survey |
Enclosed with this memorandum are copies of two surveys about technology in your school division. When presentations are made to the 1997 Legislature about technology it will be very important that accurate information is available that can be used to provide status and information reports on the use of technology in Virginia schools. Your cooperation is critical in this effort. A copy of the school survey has also been provided to your principals. The school division survey should be completed by your division technology designee. In order to reduce the number of surveys you receive, and also to reduce costs the Department has joined with Quality Education Data (QED), a Denver based division of Peterson's (publisher of several education related directories and guides) to send a single request for technology information. The data you provide will be useful to the Legislature, the Department of Education, the Governor's office and will also be available on a national basis. We want the highest quality data possible, and I am asking for your assistance in that effort. As a contributor you will receive a copy of the compiled data for your division. If you have questions, please contact Sue Bosier (ext. 137) at QED, 1-800-525-5811, or via Internet at sbosier@qeddata.com. You may also refer questions to Ida J. Hill at (804) 225-2757 or Internet at ihill@pen.k12.va.us. Your assistance in providing this data is greatly appreciated. RLP/emt cc: Principals Enclosures: This memo and its enclosure will be sent to the superintendent's office.
